The GenZ favourite revered Kedarnath Dham is set to welcome devotees once again, with its gates scheduled to reopen at 7 am on May 10, the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) said on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri.
Temple tourism in India is a cornerstone of the nation’s cultural and religious identity, drawing millions of devotees and travellers each year. BKTC chairman Ajendra Ajay made the announcement at the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath, marking the much-awaited moment for pilgrims.
The Himalayan temple, a sacred site drawing lakhs of devotees annually, had remained inaccessible during the winter months due to heavy snowfall. Ajay, extended Mahashivratri greetings to all and said that the significant footfall witnessed during the last yatra season is expected to grow this year, PTI reported.

He acknowledged the efforts made to enhance pilgrimage experiences and said the collaborative efforts of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the temple committee in ensuring improved facilities for devotees. He announced plans for a temple committee team to assess preparations ahead of the yatra.
Ayodhya followed closely with 35.9% of votes, drawing visitors with its historical and religious significance. The city’s ancient temples and vibrant markets are the primary reason for young people to pick this city. The media glare and limelight on the city has put it on not just the domestic but also global religious tourism map. A new airport and a revamped railway station have made travelling to the temple city convenient for all.
