Sustainable grants available for micro, small and medium Irish tourism enterprises

Micro, small and medium tourism enterprises can now apply for grants of up to €5,600 to support their business to take sustainable actions.

The grant funding of can be used to help begin or further develop sustainability initiatives like:

  1. Energy audit and management plan
  2. Waste audit and management plan
  3. Food waste analysis
  4. Carbon analysis with reduction plan
  5. Upskill team on sustainability (max 20% of the funding)
  6. Purchase of tools/technologies for monitoring/improving sustainability (max 20% of the funding).

The grant, provided through the I-STARS EU-funded project, is 100% funded and it does not fall under the de-minimis regulation.

Rob Rankin, managing director, Vagabond Tours of Ireland and the Irish project lead, said: “By implementing systems or sustainable practices, tourism businesses can save money, gain markets with more environmentally aware customers, and improve their environmental image.

“Recent research undertaken by Booking.com highlights the growing interest of travellers from around the world in sustainable travel. For instance, 76% of respondents expressed a desire to travel more sustainably in the coming year.”

The closing date for applications for the grant is 15 November 2023.
