Over 800 tourists, stranded in the high-altitude areas of East Sikkim due to snowfall, were rescued by army officials on Wednesday.
The troops of Trishakti Corps, a division of the Indian Army, had initiated the rescue operation which continued till late evening.
The mission, involved moving tourists, which includes elderly individuals, women, and children, to safe zones, providing them with shelter, warm clothing, medical assistance, and hot meals.
The soldiers even vacated their own barracks to accommodate the stranded tourists. The tourists have expressed gratitude for the immediate aid provided by the Army.
