Now, insurance cover for tourists visiting Bandipur, Nagarahole tiger reserves in Karnataka


Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (wildlife) Kumar Pushkar instructed the field officers of the forest department to provide insurance cover to visitors at eco-tourism sites in protected areas across Karnataka.

The Karnataka forest department has started giving insurance cover to tourists visiting the Bandipur and Nagarahole tiger reserves against any risk of untoward incidents.

A sum of Rs 5 lakh will be given for death and permanent total disablement and Rs 2.5 lakh in case of partial disability. The forest authorities have taken a public liability non-industrial policy insurance cover with a sum assured of Rs 1 crore.

At Bandipur, a premium of Rs 80,000 has been paid to the United India Insurance Company Ltd. The policy was enacted on September 23. At Nagarahole Tiger Reserve, the policy came into effect on October 4, and a premium of Rs 70,000 was paid to the same insurance company.

On June 21, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (wildlife) Kumar Pushkar instructed the field officers of the forest department to provide insurance cover to visitors at eco-tourism sites in protected areas across Karnataka.

This directive came after wildlife conservationist Giridhar Kulkarni submitted a proposal to the forest department in January. In May, Kulkarni again wrote to the senior officials of the forest department, informing them that Jungle Lodges and Resorts, a subsidiary of the forest department in Karnataka, and the Kerala forest department have been providing insurance coverage for visitors.
