Tourists now have the chance to soak in the picturesque sights of Idukki-Cheruthoni dams and wildlife aboard boat rides, courtesy of the Kerala Forest Department. This delightful opportunity is available year-round, hosted at the Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary by the Idukki-Thattekad Forest Development Agency.
Embarking at nine in the morning and concluding at five in the evening, the boat ride offers a serene half-hour escape, beginning from the Vellapara Boat Jetty. Admission stands at Rs 145 for adults and Rs 85 for children below twelve.
The journey’s highlights include stunning vistas of the Idukki-Cheruthoni Dams and the Vaishali cave. Throughout the ride, a knowledgeable tour guide provides insights into the rich history of the Idukki project, while passengers may also catch glimpses of local wildlife.
With a capacity of eighteen passengers per trip, two boats— a 10-seater and an 18-seater—are soon to be available as part of the Idukki package. Managed by Idukki Wildlife Warden G. Jayachandran and Assistant Warden Prasad Kumar B., the proceeds from these excursions will contribute to the welfare of the tribal community, to which the employees also belong.
