District Development Commissioner Ganderbal takes swift action for winter tourism safety

Ganderbal, Feb 02: In a proactive move to ensure the safety and convenience of tourists during winter conditions, District Development Commissioner (DC) Shyambir visited Gagangeer in Sonamarg. The assessment, conducted alongside SDM Kangan, ARTO Ganderbal, Tehsildar Gund, and SHO Gund (responsible for the police check post at Gagangeer), aimed to address the challenges posed by snowy weather.

Deputy Commissioner Shyambir directed officers from NHIDCL and construction company APCO to promptly open the tunnel, facilitating smooth transportation to Sonamarg. This measure is anticipated to alleviate any difficulties faced by tourists visiting the picturesque destination.

In addition to these directives, Naib Tehsildar Gund, SHO Gund, and traffic police received instructions to deploy personnel in Gagangeer for vigilant monitoring of road conditions. This strategic deployment aims to provide real-time information on the evolving situation, ensuring a proactive response to any challenges that may arise.

Responding to the DC’s call for action, ARTO Ganderbal, Wajahat Qayoom, undertook a thorough assessment of the traffic situation at Gagangeer. Accompanied by Inspector Manzoor Ahmed Qureshi, ARTO emphasized safety measures for drivers navigating the snowy roads. Special attention was given to the use of anti-skid chains to prevent accidents, and drivers were sternly advised against overloading their vehicles.
