Diezephe Village receives national tourism award plaque

Diezephe Village under Chümoukedima district has been awarded with the Best Tourism Village in India under bronze category. It was awarded by Central Nodal Agency for Rural Tourism under Ministry of Tourism, Government of India during International World Tourism Day last year.

The award plaque was handed over to Diezephe Village Council and its members on January 8 at the Directorate of Tourism, Kohima by Director Keduosieü M Rio in the presence of other senior officials of the department.

The significant achievement of Diezephe is not only a reflection of the natural beauty and cultural richness of the village but also underscores the dedication and efforts of the local community in keeping the art of the rich handicrafts comprising of woodwork and the dying art of Loin loom alive and further promoting and preserving the rich heritage.

An emerging ‘radiant gem’
As per the award citation in the Union Ministry of Tourism’s website Diezephe village has emerged “as a radiant gem, a testament to the enduring legacy of skilled artisans and master weavers.”

“This idyllic haven boasts a profound reverence for its vibrant cultural heritage, where every thread woven, and every craft meticulously carved tells a story steeped in tradition,” it reads. 

“In Diezephe, the art of handloom weaving, and handicrafts is not just a skill; it’s a way of life. This village’s commitment to environmental stewardship is nothing short of awe-inspiring,” it added. 

The citation further feted the policy of planting ten trees per household annually “as a demonstration of their dedication to preserving the very essence of their natural surroundings.”

Diezephe’s true magic lies in its unwavering devotion to fostering economic sustainability through skill development and entrepreneurship, it added.
It further termed the village as a place where “culture thrives, and traditions are celebrated with an exuberance that lingers in the hearts of all who visit.”

Application opens for 2024
Meanwhile, applications are further invited to all stakeholders for Best Tourism Village Competition 2024 and best Rural Homestay competition 2024, according to the State’s Tourism Department.

The National strategy for the promotion of rural homestay has been recently launched by the Union Ministry of Tourism
