Kolhapur: Chief minister Eknath Shinde visited Munawale in Jawali tehsil of Satara district to discuss plans to develop world-class tourist facilities in the village at an estimated budget of Rs 49 crore. Shinde claimed that the development of the area, located at the backwaters of Koyna dam, into a tourist spot will provide employment opportunities to residents of 105 nearby villages. “Activities such as scuba diving, jet-ski, banana ride, houseboat and boat clubs will be developed in Munawale. We will take into consideration the issues related to tourist safety. There will be watch towers and changing room facilities. I have told the administration to take views of villagers before moving ahead with the plan ,” the chief minister said. After spending time at his farms in Dare Tam village on Sunday morning, Shinde left for Munawale in a boat, wading through the backwaters of Koyna dam. Shinde has planted turmeric plants on his farm, which he tilled with the help of the labourers.The villagers demanded permission for commercial fishing in the backwaters, and Shinde directed district collector Jitendra Dudi to look into the matter. Shinde, before leaving for Munawale, carried out an air inspection of Vasota Fort, Ahire Bridge, Nageshwar Mandir and Bamnoli.

The Justice Shinde committee in Maharashtra has found 11,530 cases in which Nizam-era proof of Kunbi antecedents of Marathas from Marathwada had been located. The committee’s interim report will be accepted by the cabinet and the state will instruct district officials to begin the process of giving Kunbi (OBC) certificates to those with the proof. A three-member panel of retired judges has also been set up to advise the state government on the curative petition admitted by the Supreme Court.
