The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) successfully conducted a rescue operation to save around 70 people, including tourists and locals, stranded due to heavy snowfall in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The operation took place at the Sela Pass, where vehicles had been stuck since Thursday night, amid worsening weather conditions.
The snowfall began affecting the higher reaches of Tawang District on Thursday, leading to significant traffic disruptions and road closures.
The situation escalated when several vehicles found themselves unable to move forward at the Sela Pass, trapping the occupants in freezing temperatures that dipped below -10 degrees Celsius.
Responding swiftly to the crisis, the BRO’s Project Vartak mobilised its personnel and equipment to conduct the rescue. The team worked tirelessly through the chilling cold of the night, ensuring that all stranded individuals were moved to safety by the early hours of Friday.
Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat emphasised that their teams are deployed round-the-clock not only at Sela Pass but also on other critical roads in the region.
