Bihar and Odisha are trying to draw tourists, especially pilgrims, from
Tamil Nadu. The two states are taking part in the three-day Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF), which was inaugurated in the city on Friday in Nandambakam. Bihar is participating for the first time, while Odisha has presented a huge stall and roped in more people to showcase the state. Bihar is promoting pilgrimage sites, including Buddhist sites and the Vishnupad temple. Nand Kishore, managing director of Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation said that many from the south go to Varanasi, but Bihar does not get much traffic.“We have requested the union govt to increase the frequency of flights from all metros, including Chennai. We are working to get flights to Gaya,” he said. An Odisha tourism official said that the govt is promoting the destination more aggressively this year in the city. Ganzanfar Ibrahim, the organiser of TTF, said that the fair is proof that post-Covid recovery is sharp. “Around 160 exhibtors have come, including Thailand and Nepal,” he added.Private resort and star hotel representatives are taking part in the three-day event being held at the Chennai Trade Centre. Kerala is promoting the state for destination weddings while many other states are focussing on pilgrims.Recent reports highlight a significant surge in domestic and outbound travel from India, with Tamil Nadu emerging as a preferred destination, according to a press release.
