Mawkyrwat, Dec 23: The Tourism sector continues to bloom in South West Khasi Hills with the inauguration of another beautiful tourist spot, Phot Rai-Rai Falls at Mawranglang Laikyntoit village on Saturday.
The Phot Rai-Rai falls was inaugurated by Mawkyrwat MDC, Carness Sohshang.
It may be mentioned that recently, Urnar Falls View Point at Mawrap was inaugurated in the district.
Asserting that the tourism sector plays a major role in contributing to the economy of developed and developing countries in the world, Sohshang said, “Therefore, it is high time for the government, public representative, Dorbar Shnongs and the general public to turn to tourism and take a vow that we should do something to improve this sector, especially in the Khasi region where we have plenty of beautiful tourist spots including the Phod Rai-Rai Falls. Had the government spent money in the sector like other sectors, it would be a blessing to our people because once tourism grows; it will employ thousands of our youths. ”
He lauded the initiative of the dorbar shnong of Mawlanglang Laikyntoit to beautify the place and make it accessible by constructing footpaths, bridges, roads (though it was not properly accessible during monsoon season), and other developmental activities to attract tourists from all over the country.
Soshang urged the dorbar shnong through the tourism committee to continue investing in the Phot Rai-Rai Falls viewpoint so that it attracts more tourists. He also promised that he along with the myntri and other leaders of the village would approach the government for schemes and grants and also to allot funds from the central scheme through the district council.
