Kochi: With Kochi being named among the eleven best tourist destinations in Asia, the tourism authorities are set to tap the tourism potential of the district.Moving away from just being the land of Chinese fishing nets and shopping malls, the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has identified 20 tourism spots to be developed as hill stations and prime beaches for premium foreign and domestic tourists. The plan is to develop and market Koorumala, Ezhattumugham, Malayattoor, Bhoothathankettu, Kothamangalam and Mamalakandam as hill stations. While in Koorumala, DTPC is planning to build a glass bridge like in Vagamon in a 1.5-acre area, the plan at Ezhattumugham is to develop it as an eco-tourism village with premium stay facilities. While Fort Kochi, Mattancherry and Marine Drive will be DTPC’s main tourist attraction spots here, they are also exploring tourism potential in the beaches at Kuzhuppilly, Cherai and Munambam. In Kuzhuppilly beach, where the tourism department has built a floating bridge, DTPC plans to build beautiful structures around so that tourists can spend more time there. Also, they will tie-up with homestays to provide premium stay experience to tourists . On the other hand, the plan is to develop Munambam beach under the Responsible Tourism (RT) initiative and introduce adventure water sports activities.“ A detailed development plan for each destination will be prepared soon,” said Ernakulam DTPC secretary Satheesh Miranda. Meanwhile, DTPC secretary said that they were preparing a detailed project report (DPR) on the potential to develop Valanthakad island as a tourism spot.Ooranaattu Chira near Piravom would be developed under the Destination Challenge project of the state, with almost 60% of funds provided by the respective local body. The DPR of the project is ready for submission to the government. A walkway and open gymnasium would be developed in Aattutheeram Park, while at Indiranchira near Kozhencherry, a walkway, lake and park would be developed. Meanwhile, the ambitious Kalady-Malayattoor-Athirappilly tourism circuit mooted by tourism department has already received administrative sanction.

The main issues in Amber constituency are infrastructure development, power, roads, and water. If re-elected, Poonia plans to focus on strengthening infrastructure, boosting tourism, promoting innovations in agriculture and dairy, and setting up libraries and playgrounds. BJP’s decision to not project a CM face is seen as a strength, and Poonia denies that Vasundhara Raje has been sidelined in the party. He confirms that he is not in the race for the CM’s post.
